Calendula are a great plant to hide our birdbath!

During the weeks, I was learning about the plant Calendula and why they are great to hide our birdbath, birdhouse and bird feeder.These flowers are also used for companion planting among vegetables.

Facts about Calendula:
  • Calendula grows well in all seasons except in the very coldest climates
  • Calendula is known as Pot Marigold.
  • Different marigolds have different colors. African marigolds have a color different from the french marigolds.
  • Pot marigolds are grown as herbs. Marigolds are thought to be edible and they are used to naturally colors salads.
  • Marigolds are eaten by certain species of insects and the flowers need to be protected if you're growing them.

Insects that eats marigolds:
  • Aphids
  • Earwigs
  • Caterpillars
  • Leafminers
  • Snails
  • Slugs
  • Spider Mites
  • Thrips
  • Whiteflies
