Compare and Contrast!

After analysing the poster image above, each number of our team responded to the question or statements on the poster. These were recorded on 'Post it' notes This task involved comparing and contrasting similarities and differences

Fiji Venn Diagram.png

After comparing and analysing what Sophee does after school than what I do.. I have noticed that gardening is common in our lives. But the difference between us and them is that we have new and better tools than the one Sophee and her mum is using.

WALT - Compare and contrast information and to use that information to write a synthesis.

Bodyboarding At MERC!!!!

Bodyboarding At MERC

Plan:
Bodyboarding - Water activity
Abseiling - 1 person at a time - Fear of heights
The Giant Ladders - 2 people at a time - Fear of heights
Structure:Recount
It was a frosty cold day at MERC (  Marine Education & Recreation Centre ). It was our turn to do activity called Bodyboarding. (Bodyboarding is a water sport in which the surfer rides a bodyboard on the crest, face and curl of a wave.)
First we had to get our wetsuit on so that it can keep us warm so that we don’t get Hypothermia. ( Hypothermia is when you have a dangerously low body temperature ). After getting changed into our wet suit, we headed outside and listening to instructions and soon to get our boards. Our boards were like surf boards, but halved. Next we headed down to location where we were learning the safety calls that we need to know.
After learning our safety calls, everyone race down into the water and when everyone got into the water, it was freezing cold like it was a fridge.Soon, it got warmer and we lyed our tummy on our board while a wave was coming. It hits us and I felt like I was flying and while I was enjoying it, I noticed that when we bodyboarding, we are above the wave. After having a great time in the water,  we soon headed back to MERC and wash our boards and washed our wetsuits and then took the things back where they were.

Bodyboarding is fun as it's my first experiences and I hope I can do it again later the year with my family.

Endothermic!

My partner and I discussing about Endothermic!

Technicraft Wk 7

Plan:
  • Vineger
  • Baking Soda
  • Bottle
  • Funnel
  • Beaker

Writing:
Science today was based around experimenting how endothermic works.

This experiment involved vineger, baking soda, a bottle, a funnel, balloon and beaker. The first step was to stretch the balloon so that its stretch enough so that it can be put onto bottle. ( Balloon is made out of Polychloroprene ) ( Polychloroprene is a chemical stability and maintains flexibility over a wide temperature. ) The second step was that we use the funnel to pour in the baking soda and while the other person pour the vineger into the bottle. While that was done, take it outside and wrap the balloon. Next put the balloon upright so that all the baking soda tips into the bottle.

Observation shows that the  vineger and baking soda mix turn into a brown colour which it filled up the balloon. The Observation shows that people can hear sizzling fizz sound and you can feel it was cold.

That is ENDOTHERMIC.

Technicraft Wk4!

Science today was based around experimenting how heat can create bubbles. This experiment involved golden syrup, test tubes, a test tube rack, test tube holder, methylated spirits, matches, a dish and damp cloth. The first step was to put the test tube upside down and observe the golden syrup. The golden syrup slowly came down the test tube.
The next step was to waft the smell of the golden syrup and the intensity of the smell was minimum.

The third step was to put the bottom of the test tube where our armpits are  and hold it for 1 minute and then take it out to observe. The golden syrup was coming down a bit faster and the intensity of the smell was increasing. The next step is the dangerous part because we had to use the methylated spirit to create heat. Then put the testing tube above it. Well it's above the flame, twirled it a round and you can see it bubbling, that means it starting to boil. The intensity of the smell was at the maximum point where it had a strong smell.

After that step, people could eat the golden syrup after it cooled down. That experiment is about creating bubbles with heat instead of using air to create bubbles.

Low Tide

Low Tide
I walk beside you,
across mudflap,
my blue gumboots,
over crackling oysters,
shells, green-ribbed pipi,
the trace of wading birds.

When the tide is out. What lies exposed:
river threads of mud, old brown stones
tiny mussels yet to grow
my sole prints left
on the oceans
bones.

Strawberry Jam!

unnamed.jpgToday at Technicraft, the year 8's and I were making our Applesauce, Raspberry Jam and Strawberry Jam. First Glen and I poured the strawberries in a preserving pan and boiled it for 5 minutes, When it was boiled for 5 minutes, I crushed strawberries with a potato masher. Then we added sugar and stirred thoroughly. Next we added tartaric acid and boil it for further 5 minutes. Then Glen and I pour our Strawberry Jam into Glen’s Jar and my Jar. Next we did a design brief about making a bread loaf. Glen and I decided to do a fruit loaf next week. Tune in next week to see our final product
